If you haven’t yet had a colour consultation but want to start adding a little more colour to your wardrobe, then opting for a universal shade is a great place to start.
Whilst everyone who comes for a colour analysis with Colour Me Beautiful receives a palette of 42 colours that work specifically for them, there are a few shades which, when combined carefully with other colours, will work for most people.
Here we take you through those magical universal shades so you can add a splash of colour this season knowing they’ll work for you…
Purple
Regal and refined, a classic shade of purple works for everyone, without exception. The good news is that Pantone named Ultra Violet their ‘colour of the year’ for 2018, meaning there are lots of purple hues to choose from in the shops. The universal shade is medium in depth and very similar to the shade of a certain chocolate wrapper that are particularly popular at this time of year. Most colour categories can wear this shade on its own without needing to add anything else.
Teal
Not only universal, but also extremely versatile – teal will work for you whether you have a fair skin tone, dark hair, bright blue or dark brown eyes. If you have Soft/Light colour characteristics you can mix your teal with pale pinks and lighter neutrals. Those of you who are Deep/Clear can be bolder with more striking combinations like Blush Pink or Black Brown. If you’re Cool try mixing your teal with cassis and those of you in the Warm category could combine it with the coral shades in your palette.
White
Believe it or not, everyone can wear white! It just has to be the right shade of white. For most, a soft white is preferable to anything too stark, it’s then just a case of being careful what you combine it with. Warms, Cools, Clears and Deeps will all need to add some depth/contrast to balance out white worn on its own next to the face whereas Lights can wear white on its own usually. If you’re Soft then try adding a colour one or two shades darker, perhaps a Light Navy or Pewter for example.
